Technology Enabled Learning
In 2018 all students in Year 7 to Year 11 will be allocated a laptop-style device as a part of the Education Directorate’s “Better Schools for Kids – Technology Enabled Learning” initiative. The initiative is focused on ensuring all students have equal access to a device to support their learning. Because all our students will be provided with a device in 2018, we will not be continuing with Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program and hence do not suggest purchasing a device for next year.
The Directorate has decided Chromebooks will be the device all students in ACT Government schools will use based on the simplicity, reliability and ease of use. Chromebooks currently have a wide-spread adoption throughout Canberra Public Schools. They integrate seamlessly with G Suite (formerly Google Apps) which is currently used by 47000 students and teachers across the ACT.
The devices are scheduled to be rolled out to Year 7 - 11 students across Term 1 2018, with subsequent annual Year 7 roll-outs in 2019 - 2020.
The Directorate is currently in the procurement process. Once this has been finalised we will be able to provide more detailed information on device ownership and how and when devices will be supplied.
