Mathematics and the capacity to be numerate are vital to a person's successful participation in society. To be numerate is to use mathematics effectively to meet general demands of life at home, in paid work, and for participation in community and civic life. Numeracy is a fundamental Capability of learning, discourse and critique across all areas of the curriculum.
Mathematics at Mount Stromlo High School is a core subject for all students in all years. Students study Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability.
All students are encouraged and invited to participate in several Mathematics events during the year. This includes the Australian Mathematics Competition, sponsored by The Commonwealth Bank. Our results from previous years include several prize winners with many of the participants receiving Distinction and Credit awards.
Students from Extension classes are invited to participate in the Mathematics Challenge. Mathletics is another value added option of digitally upskilling mathematical skill sets.
